Test method for poor contact of RF terminals

Feb 22, 2023

RF terminals may encounter poor contact when they are used. Do you know what are the detection methods for poor contact of RF terminals? The engineer of Kabasi Electric will introduce you the knowledge of RF terminal detection.

Generally speaking, there are three effective methods to detect the poor contact of RF terminals: instantaneous break detection, single-hole separation force detection, and conduction detection, as follows:

First, instantaneous break detection
Some terminals are used in dynamic vibration environment. The experiment proves that only checking whether the static contact resistance is qualified can not guarantee the reliable contact in dynamic environment. Because connectors with qualified contact resistance still have transient power failure during vibration, impact and other simulated environmental tests, it is better to conduct 100% dynamic vibration test on some terminals with high reliability requirements to assess their contact reliability.

Second, single hole separation force detection
Single-hole separation force refers to the separation force that the contact in the insertion state changes from static to moving, which is used to indicate that the contact pin and socket are in contact. The experiment shows that the separation force of a single hole is too small, which may cause the signal transient break when subjected to vibration and impact load. It is more effective to check the contact reliability by measuring the separation force of a single hole than to measure the contact resistance. The contact resistance of the socket with the single-hole separation force exceeding the standard is often still qualified. For this reason, in addition to developing a new generation of flexible contact parts with stable and reliable contact, the manufacturer should not use automatic insertion and extraction force tester for multi-point simultaneous measurement of key models, but should conduct 100% point-by-point single-hole separation force inspection of the finished product to prevent signal transient break caused by individual socket looseness.

Third, conduction detection
At present, there is no such item in the acceptance test of the products of the manufacturers of high-current terminal blocks, and the users generally need to conduct the conduction test after installation. Therefore, it is suggested that the manufacturer should add 100% point-by-point conduction detection to some key models of products.
